The creative process can be rather daunting especially if you have demands like making money for a living, supporting a family or going to college. If you find yourself in any of these situations you know that time and money can be factors in being able to do pursue your dreams.
This is when you really need to decide!
What is the best use of your time and money in regards to pursuing your creative endeavors?
Do you come home blown out from work and then have to deal with the everyday demands of life, leaving you with no energy to be creative?
Some Tips
Do something that is relaxing and uplifting
I am not talking about sitting down in front of your TV or computer.
Do an activity that can clear your mind.
Notice any negative thoughts that you have. Any thoughts like “I cant make it” , “I’m no good” or “I don’t have the energy”.
Read my article on the monkey mind for more ideas.
Be proactive not reactive.
What I mean by this is do not focus on what you can not do, focus on what you can do. If your mind dwells on what you cannot do that is where your energy will flow. In other words, energy goes where attention flows.
If you have negative people in your life…….
you either, aren’t ready to let them go or you still need them in your life for some reason. If so then you need to have a plan for how to take care of yourself.
Musicians and artists may find it hard to be creative when negative people are present.
Remember you can’t change anyone else but you can change yourself.
Some people are so intolerable that you might have to find appropriate ways to disengage from that person.
If you don’t have someone bringing you down then you can be as positive as you can stand.
Read uplifting books!
Get support!!
If you need to work out issues it is good to find a mentor or like minded people.
Most people find a life coach can be very supportive to help keep them on track.
Most of all……..
spend at least 15 minutes working on your songwriting, art or creative endeavor.
Don’t find reasons why you can’t, instead find the the reasons why you can and should be creative.
And remember the old saying “If you build it they will come”
Be very clear about why you want to be a songwriter or an artist!
It can be a good idea to do this for any business or endeavor!
If you don’t know why you are doing something chances are that you will never succeed.
Start telling yourself the truth about yourself. Get out of denial and see things the way they really are. Don’t let other people define who you are.
This is an example of how redefining works. Calling someone stupid is an attempt to define their reality. Allowing someone to say “you can’t do it” is another example of being redefined.
Don’t ever give up!
You have a gift to this world that only you can offer.
I would really like to support you on your journey.

Love the ideas in this article, Tom. I just removed the television from my bedroom and replaced it with a table for my printer and laptop. I have really gotten a lot more work done without this distraction. Thanks for the tips, I will share with our readers.

Hey Tom, nice post about creativity, you’re right about energy goes where attention flows as our subconcious attracts what we think about most, be it negative energy or good. feeling good about ourselves and being positively creative is the way forward!
Thanks Pete, Now if we could get other people to see this truth we might be able to end wars. I know that might be large idea.but I know if you envision peace it can come around

Tom, this is such great advice. The part about “if you have negative people in your life then you’re either not ready to let them go or you need them in your life for some reason.” I know it’s a simple statement, but really got me thinking.
Thanks for this!

I still work with my monkey mind every day, the chatter is just not as strong!
You are so right about having negative people in your life. They can really bring you down so it is best to move on.
I love all your inspirational posts. Makes a person stop and think.
Thank you Virgie.
Its sometimes easier said than done. You just gotta keep on keeping on!
I like what you said about reading something positive every day. That has been something that I have been neglecting lately. Nice connecting on WA.
I hear you Michael, I struggle with it too! but I definitely notice when I don’t take the time to consciously be positive.
